THE LARGE KIRK-KYZKALA URBAN SITE IN RIGHT-BANK KHOREZM (EXCAVATIONS OF 2023–2024)
Abstract
The article presents the results of archaeological investigations carried out by the Southern Aral Sea Complex Archaeological Expedition at the site of Katta Qirq-qiz Qal’a, located in the right-bank Khorezm region. Based on stratigraphic data, it has been established that the Katta Qirq-qiz monument was founded in the 3rd century BC. The thick cultural layers of the urban site indicate continuous habitation during the early period of the 1st millennium AD. In the 4th–5th centuries AD, a certain decline in occupation activity is observed at the site. By the 7th–8th centuries AD, life at the site was restored, and reconstruction works were carried out on its defensive walls.
